WHERE I WORKED

After nearly 5 years, last Friday was my last day working for the ‘not so typical MAN.’ That man being, the greatest bookstore ever, Half Price Books. (Yep, that’s where I worked!)

Half Price Books first opened in 1972. It is a family owned and operated Dallas based retail chain that sells (and buys) both new and used books, music, movies, games and more! Today, Half Price Books has stores in 16 states, with each store carrying a unique variety of goods. Once you enter the flagship store, you’ll be amazed by the mass selection of awesomeness…

Now that you’ve seen a bit of what the actual store has to offer, let’s walk on through to the back…

and up to the corporate offices (where I worked)

Once you make it up, Half Price Books’ company pup, Telly will lead you down the hall toward the quirky, random, odd and kooky Marketing / Creative department…

When walking down the hall…

you’ll notice the company’s rich history dating back all the way from the the company’s humble beginnings.

You’ll also feel a sense of the ENTIRE HPB family.

At the end of the hall, you’ll pass these vintage typewriters that I ALWAYS have to touch every morning when I walked into work (my O.C.D.)

You’ll also pass these cool (and kinda creepy) marble stallions…

and you’ll notice the cases upon cases of clay sculptures (made by bored employees while attending meetings)

the kissing monkeys…

and the muscular Barbie dolls.

Keep on walking and you’ll pass by the company’s original CEO, Pat Anderson‘s desk.

Trot on by the B.W. costumes…

past the project boards (ugh)

and with a few more steps, you’ve made it to (what was once) my office…

where I was just as quirky, random, odd and kooky as Half Price Books and all of my co-workers are!

Half Price Books will forever have a special place in my heart and I’m truly going to miss working there. Though it was corporate, it really never felt that way. If I didn’t realize that my true calling was to work for myself, then HPB would hands down be THE job for me. I was lucky to land such an awesome job that fit my personality so well and I will forever be grateful of it. The company and it’s people have helped me grow in so many ways, both professionally and even more important, personally. As I begin this new chapter in my life, I will always know that Half Price Books helped pave my way. Here’s to the most awesome bookstore on the planet, here’s to HALF PRICE BOOKS!
