FFB LOVES TCU!

Last night I was in Fort Worth, so I decided to swing by the J.M. Moudy building at Texas Christian University and check out the opening reception of the BFA Senior Graphic Design Exhibition: Designer Genes. Always having a place in my heart for art and design (read here), I definitely wanted to check out the new wave of graphic designers!

As I entered the exhibition, the crowd was already filled with much excitement and anticipation...

...because of all the AMAZING work of course!

Whether it's joy, intrigue, curiosity, suspense, anger or the tugging of your heart strings...graphic design can grab your attention through a variety of many ways.

While checking out the work, I decided to chat it up and spread the FFB word with some of the crowd...

...as well as the designers! Below is Melissa Adams. From logos to packaging, illustration to advertising, photography to web, she does it all and she's damn good at it! If you don't believe me, check out her work here: The Small Things Studio (I'll give you some time to check out her work - 10 minutes pass) SEE! I TOLD YOU!

This dude below is my new friend, Ronald Villegas. Like his peers, he had some STUNNING designs on display as well! Ronald's hopeful that he can land a job in the field soon and I have no doubt that he will! So listen up all of you creative and art directors out there...DON'T SLEEP ON RONALD VILLEGAS! YOU'LL REGRET THAT YOU DID! Check out Ronald's designs HERE!

CONGRATULATIONS to this semester's TCU graduating graphic design class! Don't let anyone bring you down, prove them all wrong, use PMA instead of spray mount and don't forget to convert your RGB links to CMYK! GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU!

SOME OF THE MANY FFB HAPPENINGS*

Everyone say "Buongiorno!" to my good friend, Deirdre Jernigan. Deirdre is currently studying art abroad and represents FFB all the way from Florence, Italy! Every summer at the company I work for, Deirdre would intern as the graphic art / production assistant. Deirdre's a super sonic creative talent with extraordinary drawings and paintings that would wow the living shit right out of your anus! Asides from her creative talents, she's also a big time art history buff and a hyper style fashionista! Working with Deirdre was always cool because she would have some of the most wildest and creative ideas imaginable! The one knock I have about Deirdre though, is that she really x 100 believes that Harry Potter can take down Batman - uhhhh....seriously? Anyways, Deirdre's super sonic creative talents also give her the strength to hold up the Leaning Tower of Pizza...I mean Pisa.

Here's Deirdre again at the Colosseum in Rome. "Let the spaghetti rain!" - Deirdre Jernigan

Let's hear it for Deirdre Jernigan everyone! DEIRDRE JERNIGAN! (APPLAUSE! APPLAUSE! APPLAUSE! APPLAUSE!) In other Fur Face Boy news, I got my first baby FFB fan. Everyone say "Ga-ga goo-goo" (Hello in baby) to Chloee Dusel! Chloee represents in her custom FFB onesie from the great state of Wyoming! Seeing this picture definitely makes me think of creating a FFB baby label: SMOOTH FACE MAN? Hmmm...neh. A gargantuan "THANKS!" to Chloee' s mom, Amanda for sending me this adorable picture! (Insert audience track: awwwwwwwwwwww...)

Asides from cute FFB baby pics, another FFB fan, Chris Blakely from Kentucky was so appreciative of receiving a FFB shirt that he sent me a Kidrobot DIY Mini Vinyl Munny! Alot of times, I get people who don't even bother to email me back and say that they got their FFB shirt, so for someone to actually be appreciative enough to take the time and put in the effort to mail something back to me really speaks extemely high volumes! A mammoth sized THANKS to you Chris! If you're reading this, I want you to choose another FFB design, let me know and I'll send it your way. FREE of course.

*UPDATE:
So my man Chris checked out the blog and wondered why I only showed the Munny box and not what was inside the box. I let him know that I haven't even opened the box because it looked completely brand new and I wasn't ready to design the Munny yet. He told me to open the box and check out what was inside. I was a tad bit nervous thinking that a bomb might blow up in my face but instead this is what I found inside...

...A CUSTOM FFB MUNNY! WOW! THANKS, CHRIS! I was already so impressed with you just sending me something, but now I'm pretty much in complete awe! AMAZING! I'm definitely gonna be sending you that FFB Street Wear shirt you requested! Again, THANKS! I LOVE IT!

Hmmm...what else to talk about? AH! How could I forget? It's been awhile since I had one of these updates...

Help me represent FFB across our beautiful United States! Anyone who wants a FREE Fur Face Boy shirt let me know! I have 50 (assorted sizes) of the first ru
n styles left and I'm willing to give one shirt to one person from each of our states! First come, first state basis!

I REPEAT: FIRST COME, FIRST STATE BASIS! If the state below already has a Fur Face Boy on it, then it means that the state is closed for a free FFB shirt. Don't worry though, the web store will soon be open.

4/20/09 UPDATE: 43 STATES DOWN. 7 STATES TO GO. WE'RE ALMOST THERE! C'MON! KEEP THE REQUESTS COMING!

I know many of you are wondering when the FFB web store will be open and all I can say to that is...soon. I know you heard me say this more times than one but I'm very anal when it comes to the way I handle things and with FFB I'm MEGA ANAL about how I handle things. I just want EVERY little tiny aspect and detail to go accordingly, so I don't want to rush it. I also want to be sure that I have enough styles AND shirts to actually sell. I'm also planning FFB "City Exclusives." These exclusives will be sold at a specific shop in a specific city and will be ULTRA LIMITED! I'll annouce the shop and the city; I hate to say it, but...soon. So everybody please continue to be patient, I PROMISE that there WILL BE a FFB web store!!! In the mean time, check out these sneak peeks.

Oh yea, one more note...FUR FACE BOY IS NOW ON TWITTER! So c'mon, FOLLOW ME!

MAKING IT HAPPEN

Let's flashback to...

FEBRUARY 5, 2009
MAIL!

...Shirts were individually bagged in zip-lock freezer bags. Each bag had a personalized handwritten message. One day I hope to have my own bags...

Now let's go back to last month...

MARCH 29, 2009

TODAY IS TODAY

...I have alot of freelance graphic design projects that I have to finish up by tomorrow. So this weekend I put Fur Face Boy on hold for a bit. In the end, the money I make from my freelance gigs go straight to more Fur Face Boy madness...

Now let's go back to about a week and a half ago...

APRIL 7, 2009

PAPER CHASER

...Today, I received a check from one of my freelance graphic design gigs. With all the money I earn, I fund it right into Fur Face Boy. Keep checking back to see what this money is going to be doing for Fur Face Boy...

Now fast forward to today...

I'm so proud to say that Fur Face Boy now has it's very own bags! I also had some leftover money from that check, which only means it's funding right back into...you guessed it - MORE FUR FACE BOY MADNESS!

CRYSTAL CASTLES VS. FUR FACE BOY

Yesterday out of nowhere I decided to go see Crystal Castles perform at the legenday Granada theater here in good 'ol Dallas, TX. WHAT?! You never heard of Crystal Castles?! Then download this track (Crimewave) right here and get to know them a bit. It would be pretty cool to listen to it as you're reading this blog post too. YEA! That would be pretty cool! Anyways...

...the line was absolutely INSANE! It wrapped from the front, down the side and straight to the back of the theater! As I played the waiting game, I figured that this was yet another opportunity to spread the Fur Face Boy word! So c'mon, let's go meet some cool people!

As usual, the people were ALL VERY COOL! Since being my own "street team" I've been meeting so many new people and I've yet to come across any a-holes. Either I'm lucky or my fellow Texans are just the best types of people! (Texans are the best types of people) I made conversation with just about everyone and we talked about everything and anything! From work and play, breakfast and dinner, Kid Cudi to fish sticks, napping to dog attacks, Crystal Castles to Castle Grayskull...It was good times all around!

Hmmm...let's see, I claim myself as being THE Fur Face Boy and my dog, Bear Mai as The ORIGINAL Fur Face Boy, so I guess that means this guy is just a PLAIN 'OL Fur Face Boy.

After waiting in line for about 2 and a half hours, Ethan Kath (the other half of Crystal Castles) went through the line to tell everyone that the show had been canceled! The theater was afraid of getting their audio supports blown to smithereens by the extreme sounds that Crystal Castles pounds out! NOOOooOoooooOoo! In the end I got to meet Ethan (below), he was a real nice guy and though I didn't get to see him perform, meeting him and all of my new friends made the night totally worth it's while. (Insert audience track: Booooooooooooooooo...!)

PHOTO SHOOT

On Saturday, I met up with my good friends Shogun Keith and his girl, Alex for lunch. After some delicious Pho (Vietnamese beef noodle soup), sharing laughs and catching up with life; we wondered what to do next. I really had nothing scheduled to do nor did Keith and Alex, then out of the blue I thought..."Wanna do a Fur Face Boy photo shoot?" To which Keith and Alex reply..."Yea, sure. Let's do it! The cool thing about this shoot is that Alex is an ACTUAL MODEL! So c'mon! Join us and see what we can come up with!

LOOK! Up in the sky...it's a bird, it's a plane, no! It's Alex falling from the sky in her FFB BLOCKMAN Tee! Safe landings now, y'hear!

After smashing a '97Mazda 626 into pieces, Alex flexes her guns in her INCREDIBLE FFB tee. ALEX SMASH!

Here's Alex looking street hard in her FFB STREET WEAR tee. WhOooOooa...please don't graffiti my face!

AH! It looks like Keith DID make the photo shoot cut. Keith is seen here wearing the latest FFB design...the FFB TIE shirt! The original concept to this shoot was based off the 1983 movie Risky Business, but after reviewing the photos, I couldn't make anything happen with that theme. I didn't know what to do, so I just put a galaxy in the background for the hell of it.

THANKS KEITH AND ALEX! Let's definitely do this again sometime soon! Now go get a room for crying out loud! (Insert audience track: WOOOOoooOoOoOooOooooo...!)

YESTERDAY DURING LUNCH...

...I met some great people. As always, every week I go to the post office to mail off Fur Face Boy shirts. I usually use the automated postal machine to mail things off, but it was out of order so I had to use a human. The line had about 10 people waiting vs. 1 employee working the counter. I waited for 40 minutes! When I finally made it to the counter, I came to find that Wanda (below) was extremely friendly and helpful. The line wasn't at a standstill because she didn't know what she was doing, it was at a standstill because she made very friendly conversation! She asked me..."So what's Fur Face Boy?" and I replied..."It's a T-shirt brand I'm trying to start." Then she started telling me about how she used to screen print shirts for bands like Nirvana, the Offspring and the Toadies! She then gave me a great tip..."Mail at home using usps.com and you'll save like 5 -10% plus you'll get FREE delivery confirmation. You can hand your packages to your mailman or drop them off at a post office." I'm definitely going to be trying that tip out. Thanks Wanda! Now I can get the F*** on outta there.

I had about 10-15 mintues before my lunch break was over but instead of getting some food I headed on over to my favorite music store, CD Source. Yes, I still like to buy actual CD's compared to downloading digital mp3's. I don't know, I just really like the feeling of opening a CD and having an actual booklet to flip through. Anyways, I picked up the latest from MF Doom - "Born Like This," Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "It's Blitz" and a 2003 EP from The Lucksmiths - "A Little Distraction."

Here are some older tracks from each artist / band. Download these mp3's for FREE and maybe you'll understand why I like each so much! (Right click to download)

MF Doom - Paper Planes Remix
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Y Control
The Lucksmiths - Don't Come With Me

Josh (below) rung me up. I had a spare FFB shirt in my car so I gave it to him. We talked abit about music, what Fur Face Boy was all about and then transitioned the conversation talking about Tree man and his friend Bubble man.

I was already 15 minutes late and I really needed to get some food in my body, so I headed on over to the McDonald's right next to my work and ordered a McChicken. I love McDonald's and McDonald's loves Fur Face Boy! (Insert audience track: awwwwwwww...)

When I got back to work I found my man, Ace Thompson at my desk handling my projects. Thanks Ace! I owe you one.

OVER THE PAST WEEKEND

Yesterday was the Big D Half Marathon run. Before the run, I downed a homemade double banana / berry smoothie, a Rockstar energy drink and a Gatorade but the biggest boost of energy I had for my 13.1 mile run was the message written on my left hand:

As a matter of fact, I DID prove them all wrong. NEVER underestimate the heart, determination and will power of THE Fur Face Boy!

Alright, enough half marathon talk. Let's get to some NEW Fur Face Boy family members! YEA! Here we have Dexter Dixon. Dexter's an art student from Detroit and is currently working on a new EP that should hopefully be out later this Fall. Check out his blog and download some of his music right here! My favorite track is Becoming Draft. Play that track, close your eyes, set a goal, now make it happen!

"The shirt fits great, it's super comfortable, dope shit man! I can't wait for stickers and more products, I'll be supporting and repping." - Dale Dixon

Well, well, well...who do we have here you ask? This is the lovely Miss Kyrstin Lueck representing FFB all the way from the sunshine state (Florida). Kyrstin + FFB = HYPER HOT! 'Nuff said!

Also from Florida is Cortni Webb! This is what Cortni has to share with the world...

"Believe nothing, no matter where you read it or who has said it, not even if i have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense." - Cortni Webb Buddha

Interesting Cortni Buddha, very interesting indeed. *Edited April 8, 2009

For the past 2 months now, my new Wednesday night routine is to stay up until 2 a.m. gathering e-mails from names / states of future FFB family members, writing personal messages to each of them on zip-lock freezer bags and then packing their FFB shirts into a priority mail bag one by one! And all done on the floor!

I'm extremely close to having Fur Face Boy represented all over the ENTIRE nation! The whole left coast is covered and I just got Hawaii too! YESSSSS!

Help me represent FFB across our beautiful United States! Anyone who wants a FREE Fur Face Boy shirt let me know! I have 50 (assorted sizes) of the first ru
n styles left and I'm willing to give one shirt to one person from each of our states! First come, first state basis!

4/6/09 UPDATE: 38 STATES DOWN. 12 STATES TO GO. C'MON! KEEP THE REQUESTS COMING!

I also found some time this past weekend to figure out a few NEW FEATURES to this site. You'll now notice at the end of ever blog post you can instantly e-mail me by simply clicking my name. To the right of that you'll find a "share" icon, click this to easily share these blog posts with your friends and family! And the last icon is the RSS icon! Click that icon to sign up for Fur Face Boy blog updates to automatically be sent to your RSS rotation! I also added a family section to the archive page as well a getting a favicon going in the address bar. To me, it's little details like this that make quite a difference. NEXT UP: FFB mailing list! Watch for it!

I met up with my screen printer for lunch last Friday to talk about finishing up the remainder of the first series Fur Face Boy shirts. I'm counting on him to get them all done soon, so hopefully I'll have more designs to show you guys this week! Subscribe to the RSS feed and don't miss a single FFB moment!

1/2 MARATHON TRAINING

So I signed up for my 3rd half marathon run (The Big D Texas Half) about a month ago but I've been so wrapped up with work, freelance projects and Fur Face Boy that I haven't taken my training too seriously this time around. The run is THIS Sunday. YIKES! I better start training...

You'll never know who you'll run into these days, that's why I ALWAYS carry a few Fur Face Boy business cards with me. Whether it be I'm running, going to the post office, buying groceries, filling up on gas or doing whatever...I'm ALWAYS prepared to spread the FFB name! Along my running route, I ran into a real cool group of kids who were totally down and totally willing to represent Fur Face Boy!

I told the group of kids to hang on to those business cards, check out this site, tell all of their friends / family and when they're ready, to give me an e-mail so that I could hook them all up with a FREE FFB shirt! 1-2-3... CHEEEEEESE!

After that, it was time to continue on with my run.

Whenever I run this route, heading under these upcoming bridges always seem to really creep the hell out of me! For some reason, I always think that I'm gonna find a dead body there...

...but instead of a dead body I ran into these two gals! That's Allison on the left and Skye on the right. I'm sure when they headed under the bridge and saw me coming their way they were creeped out too! But they were cool enough to hear me out and listen to what I had to say. As a matter of fact, when I got home from my run, Allison had already e-mailed me about wanting to help represent Fur Face Boy! Uhhh...Skye, I'm waiting on you now.

Anyways, back to my run. No dead bodies...yet.

***huff*...wheeze...*huff...***

NOTE TO SELF: Stop looking down at your feet when you start getting tired.

The street lights just came on! And my momma's (on the phone) tellin me to come home.

- Warren G., This D.J.

Yea...it's getting pretty dark, I better start heading back now. DAMMIT! Now I have to run back under those creepy bridges in the pitch black of night!

JAY- Z & BEYONCE WEARING FFB!!!

Asides from sending out FFB shirts to everyday folks like me and you, I also managed to dig up a few contacts of PR people who represent high-profile celebrites. I knew it was a total longshot that a FFB shirt would ever even come close to making it in the hands of a celebrity, but I figured..."What the hell, the biggest risk is not trying." So I sent out shirts to the PR people of Lil Wayne, Britney Spears, Michael Phelps, Pete Wentz, Jay-Z and Beyoncé just to name a few. A month later:

HOLY CRAP! HOW CRAZY IS THAT?! And DAYYYYYAAAAAAAM...I can't lie, both HOVA and DIVA look HOTTER THAN EVER in their FFB! I'm hoping that this means nothing but good things to follow! Alright, alright...I'll tell you how I got the PR contacts, but shhhhh...keep it secret!

All you have to do is just highlight what's between the arrows to find out HAHA! APRIL FOOLS'! Hopefully maybe one day Jay-Z and Beyoncé will actually be wearing FFB, but for now...there's always the magic of photoshop. HAPPY APRIL!
