SEDONA, AZ

Over Memorial Day weekend, I decided to take a spontaneous trip to the gorgeous, peaceful, free-spirited and MEGA odd city of Sedona, Arizona. Why? Because lately I’ve been feeling like I lost a bit of direction with my life AND with Fur Face Boy. I figured a trip to Sedona would help me regain some of that direction I’m losing.

Sedona is about a 2 hour drive away from Phoenix. It’s known for it’s AMAZING views of red rock canyons, deep Native American culture, pitch dark nights, star gazing, UFO sightings, magical rocks, and psychic readings…

Another thing that Sedona is best known for is for it’s Energy Vortexes. There are four vortexes that each strengthen a side / spirit of you when visited. Before my trip I printed out a map along with notes of how to find each vortex. My goal was to visit all four…

The first vortex I visited was the Airport Vortex. This vortex is said to strengthen the masculine side of you.

The Masculine Side can be seen as being on a scale that has strength at the high end and weakness at the low end. People who have a strong masculine side are self-confident. They have the internal strength to take charge of their own lives, and to claim their rights in life. This make them good at standing up to people who try to take away their rights by force, intimidation or manipulation. Having a strong masculine side means being good at taking risks when appropriate, being decisive when necessary, and being able to focus or concentrate in order to get things done. It also means being good at figuring out how to get out of life what is desired; figuring out how to operate responsibly, and how to reason without distorting reality. Conversely, people who have a weak masculine side often doubt their abilities, and many things intimidate them. (Source)

The Airport Vortex was less than a 5 minute drive from where I was staying. Once you make it there, you have to go up the trail onto the saddle between the hills and past the twisted trees…

At all of the vortexes, you’ll find stacked rocks. These stacked rocks are seen as a sign of protecting property and keeping bad spirits away…

Once you’re on top of the saddle, all you have to do is admire and appreciate where you are….just take in life and you’ll immediately feel a certain feeling…

The second vortex I visited was the Red Rock Crossing / Cathedral Rock Vortex. This vortex strengthens the feminine side of you.

The Feminine Side can be viewed as being on a scale that has goodness at the high end, and the opposite, which is badness or evil, at the low end. In contrast to the masculine side, which strengthens the ability to stand up for your own rights, the feminine side strengthens the ability to allow others their rights and not interfere with those rights. The energy at this vortex strengthens the things you normally think of as feminine, such as kindness, compassion, patience, and the ability to let others need you and depend on you. And it strengthens the ability to anticipate the impact of your actions before you act, which is what considerateness is all about.

When you first see Cathedral Rock, you’ll immediately want to start hiking up to the top, BUT the energy of this vortex is surprisingly NOT at the top, instead, it’s halfway up the top, around the side of the rock and back down. Back at the bottom lies a hidden creek. Once there, the view, environment and energy you take in is INCREDIBLE

After strengthening my masculine and feminine sides (don’t hate), I visited the Boynton Canyon Vortex. At this vortex, you strengthen the balance of both the masculine and feminines sides.

The Balance between the masculine and feminine side is almost as important as growth itself. Even a less evolved person, if he is balanced, at least treats others the same way he treats himself. And that is what balance is all about. If the masculine side strongly outweighs the feminine, you are too strong for the amount of goodness you have, and you tend to do harm to others because you can be pushy and take unfair advantage of others. On the other hand, if the feminine side greatly outweighs the masculine, you have more goodness than strength, and you tend to let others push you around and take advantage of you. Emotions are a good indication of this balance. If you feel anger more easily than fear, your masculine side is stronger, and if the opposite is true, your feminine side is stronger. Having a good masculine / feminine balance also helps relationships by strengthening the things that make relationships work well, such as intimacy, commitment, honesty and openness.

The Boynton Canyon Vortex is an easy find. Once you park, simply go up along the trail until you see a small knoll.

Along the way up, you’ll find many cool caves and crevasses that you can hang out in. These spots are great for a sandwich, chips, beers and farting contests…

When you spot the small knoll, simply head towards it. The vortex’s energy can be felt there…

While heading towards the knoll, I heard music coming from the top of it. I was curious to know what was going on up there, so I climbed to the top of the knoll to find a man named Robert playing the flute…

Robert is a free-spirited soul who moved from Houston to Sedona 5 years ago. He doesn’t believe in working for the man, cars or commercialism. He says that the purpose of life is to have fun and stay young as possible, to which I agree! Robert says that he goes to this particular vortex, multiple times EVERY DAY. He was actually a very cool, entertaining, helpful and informative man. When you make it to the top and have a conversation with Robert, he’ll present you with a naturally heart-shaped rock from a bag of naturally heart-shaped rocks that he collected from the Boynton Vortex area. Cool, huh?

The last Vortex is the Bell Rock Vortex. At this vortex, you strengthen ALL sides –the masculine, the feminine and the balance…

The energy at this vortex is very strong. You’ll start feeling something as soon as you near it. You don’t even have to climb up too high…

…but I suggest you do. The view is way TOO awesome not to…

Along with bullshitting around, relaxing, eating, gambling, getting an aura reading and strengthening my sides / spirits, I feel like I truly DID  get a better sense of direction of what I want to do with my life AND with Fur Face Boy. Now it’s time I take some action of my direction…

Thank you, Sedona. (To see more photos from my trip, visit my Facebook album HERE)

FOOD TRUCKING

I’m a big fan of food, especially food truck food. So over the weekend I went to Texas Food Truck Fest. When I arrived, I realized that I wasn’t the only fan of food truck food…

It seemed like the average wait for ANY food truck at the festival was at least 30 minutes long. No worries though, because every wait was well worth the wait.

Embrace the power and good times of food truck food…

Man, I love Nammi Truck too much to overlook it…

Time to wait for more food…

Korean. BBQ. Tacos. Chi’Lantro figured out a winning formula. SO DELICIOUS…

I wish I had some Dough Boy Pizza, but by the time I made it to the festival, like a lot of other trucks, they were all sold out of food : ( –Good thing they’re based in here in Dallas, so hopefully I can catch a slice one day soon : )

One of my favorite foods….puppies. Mmmmmm….

The Belgian Waffle Company was well worth the wait…

What a fatteningass day…

Food trucks. What an AMAZING concept. *BUUURP*

COSMIC COMICS

Yesterday I was bored so I decided to visit an old childhood hang out of mine, Cosmic Comics

Cosmic Comics has been a local favorite for years now. I’ve been going there since I was like 5 years old back when it was located across from the first Beto’s and next door to a sewing factory that my mom used to work at. Me and my older brothers would spend hours in there buying and rummaging through new and old comics, trading cards and action figures and to also sell and trade our crap for whatever we could get in return. Cosmic Comics moved to bigger location in the mid 90′s and me and my brothers would still frequent going there. As a matter of fact, my oldest brother who now lives in Japan, would call me every so often and ask…“Have you been to Cosmic lately?” –I don’t go to Cosmic as often these days as I would like to, but it was pretty cool to see the shop still thriving and standing.

Comic book art and stories play a huge role in developing my art, design, style, way of thinking and personality…

Sometimes you can’t help but to loiter in a comic shop. You pick up a comic, look through it, read a small portion and little do you realize you just read the entire issue. *SMH*

I’ve been so out of comic book news and storylines, when did this happen?

Gamma-ray victim

Vintage action figures…

Deadstock boxes of old-school NBA trading cards O_o

Remember Starting Lineups?

What do we have here?

Ohhhhhhhhh………Awesome.

For the sake of our planet, please talk to your brother, Loki more…

Ahhhh…..the day in the life of a comic shop…

Secret ending

That cured my boredom! Don’t forget to support your local comic shop, don’t forget to support Cosmic Comics!

TACO STOP

So I found out about this AMAZING taco place a few weeks ago called, Taco Stop

Taco Stop is located on the corner Irving Blvd and Turtle Creek Blvd in Dallas. It’s eye-catching and simplistic-design will really catch your attention when spotted. The first time I ate there I immediately feel in love with their tacos and have been back frequently. The menu is posted on a sliding door / gate with the order window right next to it…

Taco Stop is a great spot to reflect on life…

All smiles : )

I ordered a trio of lunch tacos on this particular day: rib eye, sirloin and chicken alambre on flour tortillas. DELICIOUS!

All that and a bag of chips…

Taco Stop doesn’t make me feel all fatass and greasy and lazy and shit. It’s just the perfect amount of freshness and fulfillment…

Simplicity at it’s finest…

Taco Stop is open Monday – Saturday from 7am – 3pm. For more info and a quick look at the menu, please visit their website HERE. Hooray for the Taco Stop.
